100 Skies

Join me for my first “100 days” project. It’s about skies. More about it here.

Why this project?

Recently I listened to an Art Juice podcast with Alice Sheridan and her guest Lindsay Jean Thomson about the “100 days” project. You may know that this happens every year and is a sort of global phenomenon. Originally, the 100 Day Project was a concept Yale graphic design professor, Michael Bierut, came up with for a class. Now, people from all over the world decide on what their own project will be and then share whatever it is they do once a day for 100 days. Instagram is the favorite place for sharing due to its ease of use but people can share elsewhere too.

So I’ve missed it this year – it happened earlier that usual – I think it started in late January or February. However, the idea really appealed to me. One of the more noteworthy – and attractive – things about the project is the lack of rules and excessive structure. Lindsay said that most projects tend to fall into one of three areas – Play, Practice, or Produce.

There were several things about this concept that have made me decide to do my one “100 day” project even though I’m late to the game.

  • I want the discipline of being and painting in my studio every day.

  • Lindsay promises that the act of showing up EVERY day will change a person. I’m up for that.

  • I want the practice of painting skies, skies, skies. I can’t get enough of them. And I want to paint REALLY GOOD skies. I love the idea of looking at where I start and where I end – in a relatively short period of time.

So. Here we are. I hope you stick with me and follow along. You can come back to this page or check it out on Instagram.
