Top Tools and Resources for WordPress Websites and Your Business Life
The following is a list of my favorites tools and resources for your WordPress website. All of them are tools that I’m currently using or have used and thought provided excellent value. Please note that some of the links are affiliate links.
Plan your website
Build your website
For fast, secure hosting that is specifically geared to WordPress sites, choose WPEngine! Their hosting packages start at $29 a month and if you use the button or link above, you’ll get 20% off the first month’s hosting fee.
SiteGround has quickly become my favorite hosting service for the price conscious. Their support is responsive and thorough and they provide an excellent value. This is the host that I’m using currently and I’m very happy with my website response time.
Secure your website
If there is only one thing that you remember about maintaining your WordPress site, it’s that you MUST do backups. BackupBuddy has saved me more than once. Highly recommended! Honestly, if you can only afford one tool, this is the one you want. The last thing you need is to have someone hack your site and not have a backup readily available.
Publish some content
If you’re using WordPress to serve up your website and content, CoSchedule is a no-brainer for your editorial calendar. Not only can you track your calendar directly in your WordPress backend, you can also schedule all of your social channel links and posts at the same time you publish your post. It’s also brilliant if you have a team working on your content creation. Create tasks, assign them and view progress directly from your calendar.
Grow your email list
I’ve used three different email marketing tools and ConvertKit is by far my favorite. It’s designed by Nathan Barry who is a top-notch UX designer and who totally gets email marketing. One of the best features is that you’re charged only once per email recipient, unlike other tools where you’re charged by entries in a list. So if the same email is in multiple lists, you get charged each time it appears. No bueno!
Add more features to your website
This is the scheduling software I use to book out online training and consultation appointments. I like the fact that I can have different email messaging depending on the type of appointment and that is sends out reminders and followup emails. Clean interface, too!
Stay productive and keep learning
If you’re looking for a way to exercise your writing muscles with a daily practice, 750words might just be your answer. This online tool lets you create daily entries in something akin to an online personal journal. Based very loosely on Julia Cameron’s concept of “morning pages” (250 words per page handwritten for a total of 3 pages gives you 750 words…), the site encourages writing daily with badges and monthly challenges.
